FIRED UP: Ohio Bobcats give nation’s No. 1 party school more reason to celebrate
ATHENS, Ohio — On the night that called for the most raucous celebration in campus history, America’s No. 1 party school was on Spring Break.
How cosmically unfair is that? Understand, here at Ohio University, they don’t need much of a reason to flood Court Street, home to 23 of the town’s 31 bars. And they certainly don’t need something as momentous as the basketball team making the NCAA tournament’s second weekend to start setting stuff on fire.
“The side roads are usually where the burnings are,” said Brendan Moore, a graduate student in philosophy. “It happens most weekends. Couches, tables, whatever.”
Now wait a minute. There are not 23 bars on Court Street. There’s Cat’s Eye, Red Brick, The CI, The Crystal, Pigskin, Lucky’s, The Pub, Pawpurrs, The J-Bar, Stephen’s, Courtside, and Broney’s. That’s 12. Throw in the rest of the “Court Street Shuffle” and that only gets you to 18 or 19. Sure, it’s a party school, but let’s not blow up the numbers here.
