Lit mag highlights strife of an artistic life
The picture of the struggling artist is familiar almost to the point of cliché, but its truth cannot be denied. Anybody who has dedicated their life to an art, whether it’s writing, performing, making music or making visual art, is intimately familiar with the internal and external tension of pursuing one’s craft vs. the reality of that pursuit and its impact on one’s existence, for good or ill, fame or shame.
In short, during the struggle for that ideal, with the tension of those realities, and the conflicts inherent in the ambition, every artist, at some point, can find themselves, so to speak, f***ed in the pursuit of glory.
And that’s exactly the concept that Ohio University creative writing major Mari Casey is exploring in a new literary magazine developed during a publishing course at OU. Casey’s literary magazine, which came out with its first volume this month, is appropriately titled, F***ed in the Pursuit of Glory.
